Consultant Ophthalmologist – Glaucoma
Full Time 10.13 PA Post
Applications are invited for a full time substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in glaucoma, at Kingston Hospital. This position is to work alongside our Glaucoma Lead, expanding and developing our current glaucoma care provision at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital and in our two community clinics.
The Ophthalmology team consists of 10 Consultant Ophthalmologists, covering all sub-specialities, except neuro-ophthalmology. They are supported by an associate specialist, a specialty doctor, Trust grade doctors, medical retina fellows, three ophthalmology trainees and one FY2 trainee. Optometrists provide support in the glaucoma, medical retina, paediatric and cataract services. The nursing team, including a nurse consultant and practitioners, provide clinical support in medical retina, cataract, oculoplastic and A&E clinics.
Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust serves a population of 320,000. There is a dedicated eye theatre within the Royal Eye Unit. The outpatient department is well equipped e.g. SLT, YAG, cyclodiode, PASCAL lasers, networked OCT. The consultant on call rota is shared in the region and based at St.George’s Hospital, Tooting, and is currently 1:28.
The new post holder will need to work well within a well established and friendly team of experienced consultants, who will be delighted to help, support and mentor the new post holder.

Candidates can also apply if they are within six months of their CCT at the date of the interview but are required to have sat and passed their exit exam or equivalent.
