This is an internal SSD promotion opportunity for suitable candidates with a minimum of two years experience as an SSD Technician. The successful candidate will have the motivation, skills and attributes necessary to be a team leader and provide support to supervisors, junior colleagues and trainees.

You would be involved in acting as a team leader in the absence of departmental supervisors, assisting in carrying out on-going training, act as mentor to newly recruited technicians and assist in their training. You will also be involved in the cleaning, inspecting, assembly, packing, sterilising and distribution of surgical equipment for supply to the wards, departments and theatres.

The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week on a two-tier shift system i.e. 08:00 to 16:00 or 13:00 to 21:00. On a rotational basis, you may also be required to work approximately one Saturday and one Sunday (or weekend) in any four-week period, for which you have a rest day(s) during the preceeding week. In some cases, you would not be required to work any weekends during a typical four week period.

As a clinical support service, the department is operational seven days a week due to the demands of the hospital. Therefore Bank Holiday working is required (with time off in-lieu); Bank Holiday and weekend working is paid at an enhanced rate consistent with the NHS Agenda for Change Pay Structure.
